Meanie Microgreens
Nutrition for the mind body and soul.
Our Story
Meanie Microgreens was built from a passion for health, community, and fresh local food. Based in Portland, Oregon, we're a PNW indoor farm dedicated to growing premium microgreens packed with flavor and nutrition.
Our mission goes beyond growing food. We believe everyone deserves access to fresh, locally grown produce while supporting small farmers who care about their community. Every tray is grown with attention to quality, freshness, and sustainability.
As we continue to grow, we're committed to educating youth about agriculture, creating opportunities through community partnerships, and inspiring healthier lifestyles one harvest at a time.
At Meanie Microgreens, we're not just growing greens—we're growing a healthier community.
What started as a passion for growing fresh, nutrient-rich food has grown into a mission to nourish our community. We're proud of how far Meanie Microgreens has come, and we're even more excited about what's ahead as we continue expanding our products, supporting local health, and inspiring the next generation through agriculture.

Microgreens Nutrition facts and more
Microgreens punch well above their size nutritionally. Several studies — including notable USDA and University of Maryland research — have found that many microgreens contain significantly higher concentrations of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants than their fully grown counterparts, sometimes several times more per gram. Red cabbage microgreens, for example, have been found to carry much higher vitamin C and vitamin E levels than mature red cabbage, and cilantro microgreens tend to be especially rich in beta-carotene and lutein. Because you're eating the plant at its most nutrient-dense stage, a small handful can deliver a concentrated dose of vitamins A, C, E, and K, along with polyphenols and antioxidants that support the immune system, skin health, and general cellular repair.
Eating them daily is appealing for a few reasons beyond nutrient density. They're harvested and eaten within days of sprouting, so there's very little time for nutrients to degrade the way they can in produce that's been shipped and stored for weeks. They're also easy on digestion, low in calories, and simple to rotate into meals raw, so nothing gets cooked out of them. Growing your own means you're eating them at peak freshness, which is hard to match with most store-bought greens.
Feeding them to animals is something a lot of small-scale growers and homesteaders do too — chickens, rabbits, and other animals often enjoy fresh greens like sunflower, pea, or wheatgrass microgreens mixed into their regular feed, and many pet owners grow cat grass or similar shoots as an enrichment treat. As with introducing any new food to an animal's diet, it's worth starting with small amounts, sticking to greens known to be safe for that particular species, and checking with a vet if you're unsure — that way you get all the upside without any guesswork.
Chefs love microgreens for the outsized impact they have on a plate. A pinch of radish or mustard microgreens brings a peppery bite that wakes up a dish, beet and amaranth microgreens add vivid color with almost no effort, and basil or cilantro microgreens layer in herbal aromatics without overwhelming a plate visually. They're prized as a finishing touch because they add texture, contrast, and a burst of concentrated flavor that mature herbs can't quite replicate.
As for pairings: sunflower and pea shoots are wonderful in sandwiches, wraps, and salads where you want crunch and mild sweetness. Radish and mustard microgreens pair beautifully with rich or fatty foods — avocado toast, sushi, tacos, grilled meats — because their sharpness cuts through richness. Broccoli and kale microgreens blend seamlessly into smoothies or sit nicely atop grain bowls. Cilantro shines on Mexican and Southeast Asian dishes, basil complements anything Italian or tomato-based, and beet or red cabbage microgreens are a favorite for adding color to soups, plated entrées, and even desserts
